Pa/nu – Adverbial form of pa=v – altogether, entirely; in answers: yes, altogether, entirely (pa/nu ge)

kai\ a0gw=na th=v a1llhv ge mousikh=v – insert a0gw=na.  “Contests of the rest of music.”

h0gwni/zou – 2^nd singular imperfect middle indicative a0gwni/zomai: as Dep. – to contend for a prize

h0gwni/zou ti h9mi=n – according to Miller’s notes, ti is an internal accusative object – “were you competing for some [prize]…?”  h0gwni/zou is in the imperfect tense to represent the process of winning, rather than the completion.  The tense reflects that it is pending, rather than completed.  

h9mi=n appears to be a dative of advantage, although Miller’s notes disagree.  “… expresses Socrates’ interest in Ion’s success (the so-called ‘ethical dative,’ S 1486)."  I am not sure how this can be indicative of Socrates’ interest if the personal pronoun is plural.

h0gwni/sw – 2^nd singular aorist middle indicative a0gwni/zomai (see above h0gwni/zou).

kai\ pw=v ti h0gwni/sw; - the aorist tense of h0gwni/sw shows that Socrates is now talking about the outcome of the competition: “and how did you compete for some prize?”

h0negka/meqa : 1^st plural aorist middle indicative fe/rw – in Act. and Med. to win for oneself.

Ta\ prw=ta tw=n a1qlwn : unsure why Ta\ prw=ta is plural.  While I was looking in the LSJ at fe/rw, I noticed that many of the entries related to winning prizes showed places where ta\ prw=ta is used to indicate first place.  Perhaps the approximate meaning is “the first things of the prizes”?

SW. Eu] le/geiv:  a1ge dh\ o3pwv kai\ ta\ Panaqh/naia nikh/somen.

o3pwv: introduces object clause of effort.

Socrates: You speak well!  Lead on and see to it that we shall win the Panathenaia.

This clause represents a classic future more vivid conditional sentence.
